About Zero Waste Trips

Boulder Zero Waste Trips, LLC offers customized guided field trips to Boulder, Colorado. The typical 3-day Agenda includes site visits, discussions, presentations, and other educational opportunities designed to provide you with a clear understanding on how to meet the challenges in implementing a Zero Waste community.

Boulder Zero Waste Trips, LLC started as a volunteer effort to provide information about "recycling and more" to several layers of government officials from my hometown of Frederick, Maryland. After living in Boulder, Colorado for more than 2 decades, and by raising my children to live a Zero Waste lifestyle (before I knew what Zero Waste was!) I understood that "seeing is believing."

I knew that being on-site, experiencing and asking questions about how to reach for "Zero Waste ...or darn near!" is a positive example for everyone to experience.

And if you scoff and say there's no such thing as Zero Waste, then please understand that Zero Waste is a goal that is both pragmatic and visionary, to guide people to emulate sustainable natural cycles, where all discarded materials are resources for others to use.

"Zero Waste means designing and managing products and processes to reduce the volume and toxicity of waste and materials, conserve and recover all resources, and not burn or bury them. Implementing Zero Waste will eliminate all discharges to land, water or air that may be a threat to planetary, human, animal or plant health." (www.zwia.org)

Boulder is a great example of a community who is proactive in promoting Zero Waste. Though the area has some of the lowest tipping fees in the country, and no shortage of land for fill purposes, they have still use progressive, environmentally-friendly thinking toward waste management. Both the City of Boulder and Boulder County have taken the initiative and applied the necessary leadership in order to adopt Zero Waste resolutions. The committed leaders, both governmental and private sector, are willing to share their experiences and expertise with municipalities and private citizens who would like to come to see for themselves how a community can work together to keep our land, air and water clean, while being fiscally responsible and creating Green Sector Jobs.
